We made this pendant to a customers design specfication, and we hope they were as pleased with the end result as we were.

The main difficulty we had with this order was matching the shades of blue, which is alot more difficult than you would think!

Hearts have always been a classic type of pendant. We bought this pendant mount from an Italian supplier so we may struggle to make another, so if you like it you had better be quick, as jewellery featuring coloured diamonds tends to sell quicker than we can make it!

The largest yellow diamond in the world

The famous Tiffany diamond, flashing yellow beams of light and weighing 128.54 carats, is on loan to the National Museum of Natural History until September.

The jewel, one of the largest fancy yellow diamonds ever discovered, was lent by Tiffany & Co. for a rare trip outside New York.

The diamond, mined in South Africa in 1877, was cut from its original 287.42 carats by famed Tiffany gemologist George Frederick Kunz.

"This is one of the world's great diamonds," said Jeffrey Post, curator of the museum's National Gem Collection. "The color is intense and even in 1878 it made a splash, and Kunz cut it for its brilliance." It has 82 facets instead of the usual 58.

The diamond, which is about an inch wide, will be displayed in its current "Bird on a Rock" setting by Jean Schlumberger -- a brooch with a bird of yellow and white pavé diamonds with a ruby eye perched on top.

To learn a Western language like English, you need to know a whole series of sounds. If you take an English word apart, separating it into its many phonetic syllables, it would lose its meaning altogether.

In learn Chinese writing, you first lean the characters and then you learnn the wor.dTake, for instance, the Chinese da4 xue2 ?? which means "university". First you learn da4 “big” and xue2 “school; learn” separately.

Although the meaning of da xue has to do with da and xue, it is not a simple case of da ”big” plua xue ”school”. It does not mean "big school".

If you were to take the English word “university” and try to figure out its meaning based on the m3anings of the five syllabic components u/ni/ver/sit/ty, you would not understand anything because they mean nothing.

So, the Chinese character forms the basis in learning Chinese writing whereas the word or sentence forms the basis for learning a Western language.

In Chinese writing, the symbol is the unit carrier of meaning whereas in English it is the word which serves the same purpose.

Chinese characters are essentially pictures and they appeal to the eye. In comparison, Western letters and words are based on
sound rather than sight.

NEW YORK—Sotheby’s art auction house in New York is presenting three sessions of superb jewelry on April 20th. The day begins with Always in Style: 150 Years of Artistic Jewels, which is a comprehensive review of period and signed jewels dating from the 19th century to modern day, representing the main design themes of the last two centuries.

The Magnificent Jewels part of the sale features important diamond and colored stone jewels, many from distinguished private collections, including those of Patricia Kluge.

The Patricia Kluge collection is a major highlight of the sale, with the foundation of her collection being her white diamonds, including the impressive pair of platinum and diamond pendant-ear clips, set with almost 64 carats of pear-shaped diamonds, worth an estimated $600-800,000.

Intense yellow diamonds along with suites of sapphires and rubies are also featured in the glamorous Kluge jewels. A sapphire and diamond panthère Cartier wristwatch made around 1985 speaks of Mrs. Kluge’s refined taste; it has an estimated value of $100-150,000.

The sale offers superb examples of the natural colors found in nature, from warm yellow and red, to cool green and blue. A magnificent fancy vivid yellow diamond necklace worth $2-3million, from another private collection, is believed to be the first necklace like it to ever to appear at auction.

Another stunning example from Tiffany & Co. is a bracelet with fourteen beautifully matched Colombian emeralds. Weighing almost 40 carat’s, it’s skillfully set in an art deco design, and made around 1925. This piece is expected to fetch about $350-550,000.

Among the other superb jewels on offer is a ruby and diamond ring formerly owned by Isabella Stewart Gardner, and is one of the finest ‘pigeon blood red’ rubies to be offered on the market (est. $1-1.5 million). Another highlight is a rare fancy intense pinkish orange diamond ring, set with a 7.67 carat’s. It is the largest flawless diamond of this color graded by the Gemological Institute of America to date, and is worth $2.5-3.5 million.

A majority of white diamonds in the sale are the highly sought wearable sizes weighing ten carats and under.

This ruby and diamond ring was formerly in the collection of Isabella Stewart Gardner. The cushion-shaped ruby ring is up for auction this month, at an Est.
